All level 2 and level 3 coaches are required to be certified in Wilderness First Aid (WFA, 16 hours) or a NICA approved Mountain Bike First Aid course (8 hours). Certifications last 2-3 years depending on the accrediting body. WFA is frequently offered by community education departments, community colleges and even REI.
The Minnesota High School Cycling League has partnered with Emergency Medical Training Specialists (EMTS) to bring a NICA approved mountain bike first aid course to Minnesota. These courses are offered by EMTS several times throughout the year and private classes can be scheduled.
