The primary goal for the 2018 Leaders' Summit 101 is to provide training for people who are interested in becoming coaches, assistant coaches or ride leaders for the MN League. Completion of this 2-day course is the initial step towards becoming licensed as a head coach, assistant coach or ride leader for the MN League.

This training program is designed to introduce people to the basics of coaching and managing a bike team in the MN League. The majority of people who participate in this course are people who have not coached before in the MN League. Other attendees are experienced coaches who would like a refresher training on the basics. Overall, this is an ideal opportunity to learn and collaborate as a community; and get excited for the upcoming season.

In addition to classroom sessions, On the Bike Skills (OTBS) 101 Training will be part of the curriculum.  Attendees will need to bring their mountain bikes and helmets for this on-bike required skills training.

To become a Level 3 licensed coach for the MN League, completion of the Leaders' Summit is required! This includes the classroom sessions and the OTBS Training.   See below for alternate dates to participate in the OTBS Training if needed due to weather.

At the summit, in addition to offering coaching instruction and OTBS 101 training, attendees will also learn more about:

  • the MN League organization as a whole
  • how to get a mountain bike team organized
  • how to work with schools or communities
  • the issues related to liabilities
  • tips and advice regarding coaching middle school and high school students

Before the Summit - Come Prepared!

Required webinar training to be completed prior to attending the Leaders’ Summit.  Videos will take about one hour to review.

Which Summit should I attend?

Both of the Leaders' Summit events will be filled with valuable information to help get you prepare for the coming season.  Below are a few points to help resolve which summit coaches and volunteers should attend:

1. Any NEW coach, assistant coach or ride leader should attend Leaders' Summit 101 in April.

2. Any EXISTING coach, assistant coach or ride leader:

  • who has never been to a Leaders' Summit
  • who currently is a Level 1 licensed coach
  • who has never taken the MTB 101 or OTBS 101 skills training

We suggest attending the Leaders' Summit 101 in April.  Reminder, the OTBS 101/MTB 101 training is a prerequisite for participating in the OTBS 201 training.

3. Any EXISTING Level 1 or Level 2 licensed coach, assistant coach, or ride leader that has never gone to a Leaders' Summit but they have taken OTBS 101/MTB 101.  Discuss with your head coach first to determine which summit would best support your team's coaching needs.
